Hi,

The OCR application can only accept sprites with 2,4,16 or 256 colours.

I need an app that will convert a 16M colour file.

Tried Paint 2.45, DPingScan 1.33 and more but it's eluding me. I'm
probably missing something simple.

ChangeFSI?

I can put a 24-bit colour JPEG photo into it and tick the 'monochrome'
option for Sprite output to get a Mode 25, 26, 27 or 28 sprite out;
Mode 25 (2 colours) looks pretty impressionistic on a normal colour
landscape image, but the application can generate it.

If you're feeling good, don't worry. You'll get over it.

Works for getting JPEGS into Sprites suitable for !Sharpeye. (Mode 25)

I find that "Black and white" scans from my scanner aren't true monochrome!

In DPlngScan it's Menu -> Colour and then either Grey scale
or Change format. I tend to use the latter.

DPlngScan is perfectly capable to do this: for example by clicking Grey
Scale in the Colour menu. That will produce a 256 colour grey scale version
of your 24 bit colour sprite or JPEG. If you want even less tints, go to
Change Format and click the bumpers next to New. Really easy - and fast!

Yes, I agree with Paul, to be able to OCRed a document, grayscale it and
then resize it to 300% and use the histogram function, the file is bigger
but the results are much better.

Question to Chris: what is the OCR software used?

Thanks

Just getting back to this. Have been away with the memsahib - wedding
anniversary.

I tried DPlng scan grey scale but got an error with Sleuth3. Perhaps I
need to re-size the image as mentioned up-thread.

In the light of all your suggestions, I'll try another round of
'sperimentin' as soon as time permits.

Many thanks to all who contributed
