Hi,

If I have a spreadsheet in !Fireworkz Pro 2.31 on the Pi with Riscos 5.28
and wish to export it. The options from the File.Export menu give the
following prefilled save box.....

PlainText Textfile
Rich Text RTF
Comma separated CSV
Microsoft Exel Excel
Lotus 1-2-3 Lotus123

RTF & CSV are useful as the are the Windows extensions and I can just put
a title in front.

It would be helpful if PlainText was TXT & Excel was XLS

Lotus 1-2-3 has several possible extensions. Early versions used the
filename extension "WKS". In version 2.0, the extension changed first to
"WK1", then "WK2". This later became "WK3" for version 3.0 and "WK4" for
version 4.0.
I know not what version !Fireworks exports in.
I tried just having Lotus123 as the extension and LibreOffice recognised
it.
I use Bernard Veasey's app PCType to add extensions but it wouldn't
recognise the Lotus one. I checked and those Lotus extensions are in my
MimeMap.

Before I bother Andrew, is there a way of improving things?

Agreed.

You might be better posting this sort of thing on the Fireworkz mailing
list, then Stuart the programmer would see it.

Have a choice option to add or not the default file extension to saved
files regardless of filetype. Sine Nominmine have done this for files that
can be exported to other platforms.

I think Andrew is going to be very very busy for the next two or three
weeks since he is at Big Ben show this Saturday and then the Wakefield
Show (actually in Bradford) the following weekend.

That's one mailing list I'm not on. Quick look in Fireworkz help didn't
give me a link. Any help gratefully received.

I knew that would be the case so I didn't want to give him more to think
about.

Try the Fireworkz site, under "Support":

I don't know for sure but I think all you need to do is to add /txt to the
file you create. Won't take a moment for you to check anyway.

The menu isn't intended to list Windows file extensions - it's listing
RISC OS filetypes, i.e. what will be displayed by the Filer on your own
computer.

I would export as CSV if you want to transfer it to Widows (or Linux); I use Libre Office, and the file menu allows simply to open the CSV file, which can be reformatted within the spreadsheet.

Yes, Iusually use that but just wanted to see what would happen with
Lotus.

That's why PCType has a feature where you can add your own PC extension.
eg. Switch Auto off and manually enter 123 to replace the ### that is
shown in the PCType window, then drag your Fireworks Lotus123 exported
file to PCType and it will be added to the existing filename.

Alternatively, if you add:
123 DB0 # Lotus123
to the list in the !>PCType.Types file, the 'Auto' method will work.
It's all explained in !>PCType.!Help

!PCType now updated to v0.12 which has '123 DB0 # Lotus123' added to its
'Types' file. It's now on my website.

Tanks you, Bernard. How wonderfully efficient of you. Now downloaded &
working.
