I have not sent email on RISC OS using Virtual Acorn for a while but
when I tried to send email today I find for some reason I cannot send at
all as my email gets stuck in the queue.
Strangley though I can receive and send NEWS but not able to send email.

My setup is as follows:

User-Agent: Messenger-Pro/8.05wpb1 (23-Aug-2021)
(MsgServe/8.05) (RISC-OS/4.39)

Hermes 5.52 (30 Apr 2020)

Netfetch 5.53 (29th Sept, 2020)

Acorn SSL 1.05 (23 Apr 2020)

Error message shown today is:
[26 Jul 2022 17:42:19] Connected to mail.btinternet.com
[26 Jul 2022 17:42:28] Lost connection to mail.btinternet.com
[26 Jul 2022 17:43:01] Connecting to mail.btinternet.com

[26 Jul 2022 17:45:28] Connected to mail.btinternet.com
[26 Jul 2022 17:45:38] Lost connection to mail.btinternet.com

The last time my email sending worked was in June 2022

Has something changed recently in the email client which is stopping me from
sending mail?
I am with Btinternet.com and checked all my setting which all seem to be
correct as nothing has been altered.

Steve.

News goes to a different server on a different port (yours appears to be
going to news.individual.net as opposed to BT). e.g. My system is
sending news on port 119 and e-mail on port 110.

Maybe BTInternet's e-mail server is simply down?

I'm being a bit picky here; you might collect email on port 110, but
you couldn't send it on that port.

It doesn't alter the principle of what you said, of course.

True - I was looking at the AntiSpam choices and not the MSC ones!
(Where the port appears to be 465.)

Have you maked to get it working?

If not turn on detailed logging within Hermes/Netfetch for this account,
then have a look at the log, it will show the communications between you
and BT Internet as it tries to connect and should highlight where the
issue is.

I managed to get it working by changing the port to 995, I think it was
110 before but no idea why it decided to suddenly not send.

Authenticated login (APOP) ticked and
SSL (usually port 995)

Thank you all for the help, twas Harriet that gave me the thought of
changing ports.

Regards,

Steve
