G'day folks,
I'm having a problem with Thump 1.56 (a20) (Feb 5 2022)

RISC OS 6.20 on VRPC-DL.

I have a directory with some Drawfile within it.
I drop the directory on the Thump icon bar icon, the Thumbnails are
displayed, and the display is overlaid with an error message.

"Thump may have gone wrong. Click Continue to try to resume or Quit to
stop Thump."

Doesn't matter which is clicked Thump vanishes.

Reporter notes thus:

09:24:30.97 ** Error **
Error : &80000002
Message: Internal error: Abort on data transfer at &00027204
09:24:30.98 ** WimpError ** from Thump
Error : &80000002
Message: Internal error: Abort on data transfer at &00027204

Please!
Any obvious solution to this problem?

Thanks
Dave

Just a directory containing a number of Drawfiles, no text anything, just
a load of OvPro border files.

Richards suggestion about the ScrapDir was spot on.

Thanks

I've had this and it seems to be a long standing issue.
Open the ScrapDir eg. !Boot.Resources.Scrap.ScrapDirs.ScrapDir
(path may depend on version of RISC OS).

Open Thump directory - You are likely to see 2
files named DirHist and ImageHist and 2 data files. For some reason
these get corrupted and give the problem you have outlined. Simply
move Thump directory to a separate filer window (just in case you
need to go back). Re-load !Thump and drag Drawfiles over the !Thump
iconbar icon to resume.

Follow-up:

There is a Rebuild database option under Utilities (Menu button over
Thump's iconbar icon). The 'rebuild' option in the Thump Iconbar Help
file outputs a message "Object x not found in Thump" so I'm not sure
what it does. Might be worth a try though.

Aha! The ScrapDirs problem was the answer Richard.
Now sorted. :-)

Hi,
Thanks for the reminder, I had the same problem.
Draw files are well displayed in Thump's filer, and I was able to test
with those converted by Svg2Draw.

Note, I updated Svg2Draw, calculation errors in the transformations.
There is still a lot to do....

If you are interested, the program is on this web page, thank you for
testing.

The eXML module is XAT and it's easier to install it in !BootResources.

This will be the first test on 6.20 RISC OS?

Thanks Jean-Michel, that was the solution. :-)

Now for some testing, assuming you don't mind me testing it. :-)

I have a number of SVG files created in InkScape on the PC side for
testing.

Perhaps you would prefer we tested privately, rather than in this public
forum?

Let me know?

I don't know inkscape, so it will be a good experimentation and the goal
of the program is to be able to exchange this type of file which seems
quite widespread.
Post by Dave

It will be easier to exchange files, because there will certainly be
problems, the SVG standard is rather vast and I still have to implement
certain functionalities (except those that Draw cannot reproduce)

Can OpenVector reproduce some of these?

OpenVector is a much-enhanced Draw and has many more facilities.

Maybe, but I don't know how to translate them.

Certainly. When I want to arrange a drawing I use !ArtWorks (transparency,
for example) or !Procad more technical
To check the rendering of the drawing, I use !ImageView and so I can
improve it if necessary.
What is interesting with Draw is that it is standard under Risc OS and
serves as a common denominator.

OpenVector opens files produced by Svg2Draw very well, and can manage
layers, which is an SVG possibility....

I have a problem with OpenVector. when I install it on the baricon I have
the following message(s):
 buffer overflow
 Trinity.medium not available
 Academico used instead
Trinity is in the OS ROM !!!
This does not prevent OpenVector from working, but the messages appear
each time a Draw file is opened (except the first one).
I think this is due to the configuration of my ARMX6 (standard) and the
management of fonts?
If you have an idea ?

Trinity is a standard RO font. Should be present on any RO device if it
hasn't been removed or moved somewhere outside of Boot.

Buffer overflow I have no idea on. I've used OV on many RO computers
without problem.

Best contact Christopher Martin - unless something's happed he is still
maintaining OV.

Do you have a "Messages" file inside !Fonts (used to speed up font

Bonjour Harriet,

This morning Fonts cleaning!
with !Chars I retested all the fonts and some, although listed, were no
longer present.
I deleted them, but the fault persists, so deletion of all the Messages
files in the Font folders.
And now no more problems with !Thump and !FireWorkz, nice.

Question: who builds these message files and updates them?

Merci beaucoup.

I've deleted my Messages file as it caused a problem in the past.
Unfortunately I can't remember what the problem was and I can't find a
note about it. Fonts working happily without it.

It's built by the FontInstall utility within Configure, but can go awry if
fonts are then added or removed by hand (bypassing FontInstall).

I got rid of the Font.Messages file many years ago, I don't remember the
fine details now, but it was causing problems with the RISC OS Font
management app I use.

Yes, on reflection, it seems to me that this is the only time this file
could be created. Thank you for confirmation.

!FontInstall allows you to remove Fonts?
The easiest way would be to delete the font directory and the messages
file, that's just a guess.
