Hi,

I'm trying to locate SoundCon by Rick Hudson and PlayIt by Rick Hudson
and now Chris Martin.

I'm making a presentation using OHP by Tony Still.
I'm adding sound tracks to some slides which is working well except I
need to convert some mp3 files to WAV which OHP recognises.

OHP says SoundCon will do that. I also learned in my searching that
SoundCon has been superseded by PlayIt.

I have play it at home but stupidly didn't put it on the machine I'm
using during my sojourn in Australia.

All searches I've tried lead to dead ends
Riscository led me to www.users.on.net which can't be reached.
Riscos products directory is very out of date and points to unrechable
websites.

A search for Rick Hudson and Chris Martin led nowhere either.

I must have got it from somewhere.
Can anyone help please?

There is an application !MP3toWAV that may be useful.

Is this a RISC OS app?

I must be going senile. I already have PlayIt lurking in my
Boot.Resources.
I neededed it to run !DigitalCD.
I'd set up that so long ago I'd completely forgotten. I now remember it's
not a stand alone programme.

So why did a site somewhere in the universe say it was replacing SoundCon.
Does SoundCon convert files? Is it still available?
I'm now exploring some options on the Dark Side until something RISC OS
comes along.
Many thanks to all.

I found something on the Windows side.
HD Video Converter Factory
It's a downloadable free programme.
Converts many types of Audio / Visual files.
Mp3 to WAV a doddle.

My lengthy presentation in OHP (from CJE) on the Gennett recording
studios is now complete. Those not interested in classic jazz will have
no idea what I'm talking about.
It has 143 slides, 8 of which play musical examples.
I can now show this on a big screen using HDMI.
Who needs Powerpoint? Vive la RISC OS.

Excellent work Chris.

It's good to hear there are still folks interested in the earlier days of
Jazz, particularly about Gennett studios, where a lot of later to be
famous musicians started recording.

Good man. :-)

Thank you. My presentation includes stuff about Jelly Roll Morton (My
hero. I try to base my piano style on his for much of the time. Not that
I succeed but we keep persevering.)
Also, King Oliver and his Creole Band, Bix and the Wolverines, Lois Deppe
and Earl Hines (another hero), Ladds Black Aces etc, etc.
At the Whitley Bay Jazz Party this year was an American who had Bob
Gillette's banjo. The one he played at the Gennett studio in the
Wolverines. Of course I took a picture for my presentation.
Now, on piste back to RISC OS......

Totally OT. so sorry folks, my last note...

Chris, I've often wondered... If Bix had lived long past 28 to be an old
Muso?

Ah! what a loss to music he was...

Yes,
In fact it is an interface with "lame", which facilitates the work because
it allows to convert several.

I couldn't find it on the web!

Thanks for the link.

However, when I tried to use it I got..

Build settings used to create this program require at least an ARM
Architecture 6 CPU at runtime.

Chris it sounds as though !MP3toWAV may be a problem on Virtual
Acorn Adjust 4.39. I have just tried it on my ARMX6 (RO5.31) and it
seems to work as expected. Thanks to Jean-Michel for making it
available on his website.

I agree with you about OHP - it's still a very useful presentation
program - I've used it a few years ago for my U3A Astronomy talks (pre
covid). It's one of the simplest programs to use - I love the fact you
can drag a directory of ArtWorks, jpegs etc. over the iconbar and
without further tweaking run a slideshow. Pity you can't use it for
MP3 or video.

Has anyone got experience with using laser pointers? Many libraries
seem to have spent a lot of money on huge monitors where I've found
lasers just don't seem to work - I wonder if its something to do with
the laser energy being absorbed. I still prefer to use an overhead
projector where I can guarantee the laser reflects light properly.

Perhaps someone can take it on a make a few improvements. Although I
presume the copyright resides with the Photodesk people judging from the
splash screen.

Yes. I gave up. I now try to set up near the screen as most of my
presentations can plug in the the main set-up via HDMI. I then use a
long, telescopic physical pointer

I have updated the Mp3toWav archive by adding various versions of Lame,
for testing.
Thanks for feedback.
